“Confirmed 38 deaths, (still) two seriously injured, 11 suffered minor injuries, and about 2,000 people evacuated themselves,” said Suharyanto (Suharjantas), head of the National Disaster Risk Reduction Agency, at a press conference.

The shallow earthquake’s epicenter was near the coast of Flores Island, about 68 kilometers northwest of Ende, US and Indonesian officials reported.
