“If the procurement process goes smoothly, the contractor is expected to be selected during September,” VVK said in a comment to BNS.
The company does not disclose the value of the work – it will be revealed after the competition ends.
It is desired that the square becomes the main attraction and community gathering place of Naujoji Vilnia. Space will be left for a future sculpture, which would be installed through the “Kuriu Vilnių” program.

The square is planned to combine event and everyday recreation functions. In the central part, amphitheater-type benches decorated with clinker bricks will be built, and the amphitheater would serve as a large outdoor auditorium on special occasions. Old, worn stairs will be removed, and new pedestrian paths are planned in their place.
In addition, earthworks in the tree root zones must be carried out manually or using an air spade to maximize root protection from damage. It is planned to remove only invasive, seed-bearing Norway maples and a few other trees in poor condition, the municipality assures.

A building permit for the square’s transformation was obtained in May.
