Talented young French musicians who arrived in Klaipėda, together with Estonian conductor Kristiina Poska, presented to the audience Richard Strauss’s symphonic poem “Thus Spoke Zarathustra,” Maurice Ravel’s “Daphnis and Chloe” Suite No. 2, and the legendary “Boléro.” The performers of Strauss’s score – the young musicians – faced a considerable challenge – to create a rich orchestral sound, so this time there were as many as eight horn players on stage. Ravel’s music revealed a completely different side of the orchestra – a clearer, more colorful, subtle sound. The audience received this concert very warmly – the young musicians and their conductor Kristiina Poska were generously applauded.

The French National Youth Symphony Orchestra consists of musicians aged 16–24, selected from all over France. For many of them, this trip was their first acquaintance with Lithuania. “It is a great honor and happiness for us to give the audience the opportunity to be the first in the Baltic States to hear the sound of this orchestra. We are glad to have been able to present such a program to the audience together with the talented conductor Kristiina Poska. It was good to see how warmly the audience received it. This concert became a bright highlight of the festival dedicated to Queen Louise’s anniversary,” says Goda Giedraitytė, head of the Klaipėda State Musical Theatre.

The VI Klaipėda Festival dedicated to the 250th anniversary of Queen Louise’s birth continues: the festival finale on September 5 will be crowned by Karl Jenkins’ “Symphonic Adiemus” concert in the courtyard of the Faculty of Social Sciences and Humanities at Klaipėda University. The joint performance will bring together the KVMT Symphony Orchestra, the Klaipėda Concert Hall choir “Aukuras,” the Klaipėda Cultural Center Fishermen’s Chamber Choir “Cantare,” the Kretinga Cultural Center choir “Kristalė,” and the Palanga Chamber Choir. The conductor will be KVMT’s chief conductor Tomas Ambrozaitis. The free final festival concert is dedicated to the city community.
