During the mentioned period, the Latvian ports handled mostly bulk cargo – 8.451 million tons, which is 15.1% less than the previous year. Of these, 2.982 million tons were grains and grain products, which is 11.7% less.

The volume of general cargo handling decreased by 7.3% to 8.034 million tons. This amount included 3.089 million tons of container cargo (7.4% less than the same period last year), 2.534 million tons of timber (16.3% less), and 2.216 million tons of “ro-ro” cargo (1.5% more).
Liquid cargo handling decreased by 16.2% to 3.36 million tons. Oil products accounted for 2.869 million tons of liquid cargo turnover – 19.9% less than last year.
By cargo volume among Latvian ports, Riga led with a total of 10.328 million tons handled – 3.6% less. Second was the port of Ventspils with 4.462 million tons (-23.9%), and third was the port of Liepaja – 3.751 million tons (-16.1%).

The total volume of cargo handled by Latvia’s smaller ports decreased by 17.8% to 1.305 million tons.
Throughout the past year, Latvian ports handled 34.281 million tons of cargo – 4.8% less than in 2024.
