The initiator of the building reconstruction is the Kretinga Museum. The institution plans to restore, as much as possible, a more authentic exterior appearance of the building, arrange its surroundings, and adapt the interior spaces for museum needs. In the renovated premises, it will be possible to hold larger exhibitions and events, and offer visitors a variety of educational activities. It is hoped that by eliminating another heritage “pain point” in the surroundings of the Tiškevičiai Counts’ Palace, the Kretinga Museum and its surrounding spaces will become more attractive to tourists and encourage visitor flows.

“The Kretinga Museum is one of the most important gems of Kretinga, attracting more and more visitors every year. Therefore, targeted investments are also made in the maintenance of the museum’s infrastructure,” says Antanas Kalnius, mayor of Kretinga district. “A few years ago, the Winter Garden renovation works were completed, the historic veranda of the Tiškevičiai Counts’ manor house was restored, and the old dormitory standing near the museum was demolished. In addition to the mentioned manor complex building maintenance works, this year it is also planned to start the installation of lighting for the manor park paths. Currently, public procurement procedures are underway to select a contractor.”
The value of the project “Preparation and maintenance works (elimination of emergency threats, repair, restoration) of the Kretinga manor estate spirit distillery building research and maintenance project” is nearly 800 thousand euros. Research and project preparation works are carried out by UAB “Klaipėdos projektas”, the contractor is UAB “Pamario restauratorius”. The project is funded by the Department of Cultural Heritage under the Ministry of Culture and the Kretinga district municipality.

and cultural monuments list, another utility building was mistaken for the brewery, which in 1997 was registered in the Republic of Lithuania’s immovable cultural heritage register as the Kretinga manor estate spirit distillery.
· In 2023, after the Kretinga Museum administration initiated the restoration project of the building then considered the spirit distillery, the opportunity and necessity arose to review previous historical studies of the manor estate and the spirit distillery-brewery (brewery) building, archival-documentary sources, analyze and critically evaluate them. Until then, the historical development, original purpose, and adaptation of the studied building during various periods of the manor’s history had not been studied in detail, and the research was limited to the building’s description, local residents’ testimonies, and uncritical presentation of written source data.
· Julius Kanarskas managed to find data that questions the original purpose of the building registered in the cultural heritage register as the Kretinga manor estate spirit distillery.
· The author of the historical research concluded that from 1880–1883 until the Tiškevičiai Counts left Kretinga in 1944, the building served as a warehouse-icehouse and recommended applying to the Department of Cultural Heritage under the Ministry of Culture of the Republic of Lithuania to correct the mistake – to change the name in the cultural heritage accounting documents and the cultural heritage register from “Kretinga manor estate spirit distillery” to “Kretinga manor estate warehouse-icehouse.”
