Since the 1980s, the dance theater “Aura,” renowned in Kaunas and abroad, is preparing for a new phase of its activity. After the long-term tenure of the theater director Birutė Letukaitė-Komskienė, the Kaunas City Municipality is looking for a leader to continue the strong creative tradition of the dance theater and to shape ambitious future goals.

“Aura” is the first contemporary dance theater in Lithuania, which over several decades has become an integral part of Kaunas’s cultural identity. The new leader is expected to provide professional management of the institution and a clear vision of how the theater will develop over the next five years.
Responsibilities of a strong leader
The future director will have to maintain and strengthen the artistic identity of the theater developed over several decades, as well as ensure a smooth stage of the institution’s development: expand audiences, enhance the theater’s visibility in Lithuania and abroad, create new partnerships, and seek modern forms of creative activity and dissemination.
The new leader is expected to demonstrate leadership, creativity, and a strategic approach – the ability to unite and grow a professional team, initiate changes, attract additional resources, and balance high artistic quality with sustainable institution management.
The job functions and responsibilities are outlined in the Regulations for Competitions for the Positions of Directors of National, State, and Municipal Theaters and Concert Institutions. According to these, the institution’s director will be responsible for organizing, supervising, and developing “Aura’s” activities, implementing the institution’s strategic goals, managing financial, material, and human resources, partnerships, marketing, and other operational processes.
Candidate requirements
Applicants for the director position must have a higher university education and a master’s degree or an equivalent higher education qualification in the specified field. They must also have at least two years of managerial work experience.
The future leader will be required to prepare and defend a five-year prospective activity program for the institution. This program evaluates the current theater activities and presents a vision covering creative work and dissemination of works, cultural educational activities, marketing, ticket sales and reservation systems, service development, and audience engagement.

The program must also reflect the approach to managing the theater’s infrastructure, human and financial resources, and other development directions proposed by the candidate for “Aura.”
The competition winner will lead the institution for five years. A fixed-term employment contract will be concluded with them, and a probation period may be set for the appointed director. The coefficient of the fixed part of the official salary is 2.11, and the salary may reach 3793.78 euros before taxes.
