“Traveling to schools, cultural centers, libraries, camps, meeting people in different parts of Lithuania, I see how important it is just to be together. Sometimes citizenship starts with a very small thing – a helping hand, attention to a person, a desire not to stay aside. If each of us did that little thing, life would already have more meaning,” says G. Savickas.

According to him, the more he travels around Lithuania, the stronger his faith grows in people who create change in their communities every day and contribute to building a stronger state.
On June 6, the well-known actor will speak at the “Citizenship Festival” discussion – “Strong Regions, Strong Lithuania,” which will be moderated by Giedrius Masalskis, head of the LRT Radio Department and member of the EBU Radio Committee. According to him, citizenship begins with a very simple but important principle – to leave the environment better than you found it.
“For me, citizenship is closely related to the scouts’ wish – leave the place behind you better than you found it. The same goes for the country we live in – everyone who contributes even a little to its improvement contributes to making it a good place for us to live,” says G. Masalskis.
The discussion on regional leadership will also feature Darius Varnas, mayor of Ukmergė district municipality. The mayor of one of Lithuania’s fastest-growing regions has repeatedly emphasized that strong regions start with active people and communities. In his opinion, the success of regions is primarily determined by people who care about their environment and community.

“Citizenship is a force that grows strong regions. I am convinced that the strength of every region lies first and foremost in its people. When residents care about what happens in their city, town, or village, when they contribute to joint initiatives, propose ideas, help each other, and are not afraid to take responsibility, then the region grows and strengthens,” says D. Varnas.
The discussion will cover not only community spirit and local leadership but also the importance of investments for regions. This relevant economic topic will be addressed by Elijus Čivilis, head of the public institution “Invest in Lithuania,” who will participate in the discussion.
Meanwhile, Linas Kukuraitis, deputy chairman of the Seimas Social Affairs and Labour Committee, who will also participate in the discussion, is convinced that the strength of regions is primarily determined by interpersonal connections, trust, and the ability to unite for a common goal. The politician believes that citizenship is not a random phenomenon – it is born where people feel responsible for their community and its future.
“Citizenship is born in the community. From example, responsibility, and vision,” says L. Kukuraitis.
The hour-long discussion “Strong Regions, Strong Lithuania” will take place on June 6, Saturday, from 3:00 PM. The “Citizenship Festival,” organized for the third time, is expected to attract over 1,500 visitors.
