This was probably the only thing that could have prevented Armand Duplantis from winning gold at the European Championship: food choice.

The world record holder in pole vault admitted that before the final he tried the Indian dish “Chicken Tikka Masala”.
“It was the stupidest thing I have done in my life,” the 26-year-old Swedish athlete was quoted by “Aftonbladet” after winning the European Championship gold in pole vault. “If you want to experience stomach troubles… eat Indian food before the competition. I don’t understand why I did it.”
The athlete said that while eating he already thought there might be problems. He tried to push the sauce aside on the plate and eat only the chicken. But it was still bad.
“I sat on the toilet all day. I thought it wouldn’t be that bad, but things really were not good,” admitted A. Duplantis, joking that he would probably have to visit the little ones a few more times during the night.

It was a good lesson for him. “Now I will know. Don’t eat ‘Chicken Tikka Masala’ before competitions,” A. Duplantis promised himself.
He said he would celebrate the European Championship gold medal calmly, but not because of possible stomach problems, rather because of the upcoming competitions on Thursday, when the Diamond League event will take place in Lausanne.
At the European Championship, A. Duplantis won the title with a jump of 6 m 15 cm, but at the Birmingham competition he did not try to break the world record, which he has improved many times, and this year in Sweden reached a new one – 6 m 31 cm.
