“After sirens sounded in the Yiftah and Ramot Naftali areas some time ago, two projectiles that crossed the border from Lebanon into Israeli territory were intercepted,” the army stated.

Later, it reported that it had destroyed “the launch sites used by Hezbollah terrorists to carry out this attack.”

The Iranian-backed group, which claimed responsibility on Sunday for separate attacks against Israeli soldiers in Lebanon, has not yet commented on the situation.

A ceasefire, which was supposed to end the fighting between Israel and Hezbollah, came into effect on April 17, but it was never fully observed.

Hezbollah and Israel frequently exchange accusations of ceasefire violations, with each side justifying its attacks by alleged violations committed by the other.

This week in Washington, Lebanese and Israeli envoys announced another conditional ceasefire.

Under it, Hezbollah would cease fire, withdraw from the Israeli border, and the Lebanese army would be deployed in new “buffer zones” in the area, where it would exercise exclusive control.

However, Hezbollah, which drew Lebanon into the Middle East war on March 2 in retaliation for the assassination of Iran’s supreme leader, rejected the agreement and demanded that Israel completely withdraw from Lebanese territory.

Israel also continued its bombardment of its northern neighbor despite the ceasefire, with Lebanon’s state-run National News Agency reporting a series of strikes in the country’s south, some of which were fatal.

Sunday’s attacks came a day after Israeli strikes killed at least five people, including three Lebanese soldiers, Lebanese officials reported.

Lebanese President Joseph Aoun condemned the attack on his country’s soldiers, calling it “a blatant violation of Lebanon’s sovereignty.”

According to the Lebanese Ministry of Health, nearly 3,600 people have been killed in Israel’s extensive air strike campaign and ground invasion.

On Saturday, Lebanese army commander Rodolphe Haykal traveled to Pakistan, a key mediator between the US and Iran.

Tehran demands that Lebanon be included in any agreement with Washington to end the regional war, and a source familiar with the situation told AFP that Haykal’s visit is related to Pakistan’s efforts to resolve issues in negotiations over the Middle East war.
