The journey from the first steps in ballroom dancing to the university team cannot be overcome in one season. It requires years of consistent work, technical and physical preparation, stage and competition experience, and the ability to be part of a team.

This is exactly the principle on which the new program of Klaipėda University and the ballroom dance club “Danė” is based. It is a long-term education system where the child’s level of preparation grows together with them – from ballroom dance technique, correct posture, rhythm and coordination basics to more complex team choreographies, stage experience, and sports mastery.

“Team ballroom dancing is more than choreography. It is a place where children learn discipline, responsibility, self-confidence, and teamwork. My goal is to create an educational path where every child can grow from the first steps to the Klaipėda University Latin American dance team ‘Danė’,” says the program leader and coach Tadas Romeika.
Four classes – one consistent path
The program is designed for children and youth aged 6–18. The educational content is adapted according to the students’ age, abilities, and level of sports preparation. Training will take place three times a week throughout the academic year. Dancers will learn not only individual technique but also synchronized movement, precise spatial arrangement, formation changes, mutual coordination, and responsibility for the team’s overall result.
“I have been with the ‘Danė’ team since its very first days, so I have seen firsthand how much consistent work and growth in the team can give. Today, as a lecturer at Klaipėda University, I am very happy that we can offer such a path to children from a young age – to nurture not only their mastery but also the future generation of university dancers,” says Roberta Drungilė.
An important part of the program is practical experience. Young dancers will participate in concerts, festivals, representative events, ballroom dance competitions, educational projects, and creative camps.

Coach Anita Ingrid Szocs, who came to Lithuania from Hungary and became part of the “Danė” team, emphasizes that a high sports level is the result of a long process.
“As a professional dancer, I know that high mastery does not appear in one season – it is built over many years. I want to pass my experience to young dancers and show how much can be achieved with a clear goal, good preparation, and consistent work,” says A. I. Szocs.
Perspective – Klaipėda University teams
Perhaps the most important principle of the new system is continuity. After finishing one age group, the dancer’s path does not end. By improving, they can move to a higher stage of education. In the long term, young dancers can aim to become part of Klaipėda University’s Latin American dance teams – both the couples’ dance team and the solo dancers’ team.
This way, from the first training sessions, a clear perspective is created for the child about where consistent work can lead. For one, this path may continue in the university team and high-level competitions; for another, dancing will provide physical preparation, self-confidence, and teamwork experience. However, the main idea of the program remains the same – to grow not randomly, but consistently.
