Ryanair initially explained the delay by a minor technical fault, and later disruptions by a sick passenger.
Problems – already on the way to Lithuania
Sixteen-year-old Eva Gregory claims that she and her family spent about 30 minutes on a bus without air conditioning. Later, they were transferred to a second bus for about half an hour, where the air conditioning reportedly worked only minimally.
However, according to the airline Ryanair, passengers were transported to the plane by buses, and they spent an additional ten minutes in a vehicle where the air conditioning was working.
A holidaymaker from Derby stated that passengers had to wait another 20 minutes on the runway in scorching heat before boarding the plane.
Heat inside the plane
According to Eva, the air conditioning was not working upon boarding the plane.
“When we boarded, it immediately became clear that the air conditioning was not turned on,” Eva told NeedToKnow.
“It felt like stepping into a huge heat. We boarded the plane but sat and waited for more than an hour in complete heat without any air conditioning,” the girl complained.
“All passengers were very irritated and quickly lost patience. People started taking off their shirts because of the heat,” Eva said.

She said she saw two passengers lose consciousness, as well as people who felt sick: “Two people fainted, and I don’t know exactly how many vomited.”
The girl said that staff did not offer anyone free water – not even those who needed urgent medical assistance.
However, Ryanair stated that the crew made it possible for passengers to buy drinks and snacks.
Eva claimed that the cabin crew tried to prevent passengers from boarding the plane until the problem was resolved, but airport staff did not listen to the crew.
It is reported that the air conditioning gradually started working only after the plane took off.
“This flight from Malta to Birmingham (on August 10) was delayed due to a minor technical aircraft fault, and later the delay was extended due to a sick passenger on board,” a Ryanair representative told the Daily Mail.
“After engineers checked the aircraft, it was allowed to fly, and this flight from Malta took off at 19:00 local time,” he added.
