National Film Awards "Silver Cranes" to be Presented in Vilnius

As usual, awards will be presented in 19 categories as well as three special awards: the “Golden Crane” for lifetime achievement, the award for the promotion of film culture, and the “Silver Crane’s Egg” for the best student work of the year.

This year, 72 film applications were submitted for the awards, of which 68 were forwarded to the selection committee for consideration.

Jurgis Matulevičius’s “Chinese Sea” and Karolis Kaupinis’s “The Hiker’s House,” among other nominations, are named this year as contenders for the best feature film, best director’s work of the year, and best screenplay author.

In the best feature film category, Gabrielė Urbonaitė’s “Renovation,” Ignas Jonynas’s “Wall,” and Vytautas Katkus’s “Guest” were also nominated.

Actors nominated for best actor include Arvydas Dapšys (“The Hiker’s House”), Marius Repšys (“Chinese Sea”), Paulius Pinigis (“The Hiker’s House”), Robertas Petraitis (“Activist”), and Šarūnas Zenkevičius (“Wall”).

Best actress nominees are Danguolė Bainarytė (“Wall”), Ineta Stasiulytė (“The Hiker’s House”), Jūratė Onaitytė (“Sand in Your Hair”), Ula Liagaitė (“Danka”), and Žygimantė Elena Jakštaitė (“Renovation”).

In addition to J. Matulevičius and K. Kaupinis, the best director nominees include Aistė Žemgulytė (“Dust, Bones and Miracles”), G. Urbonaitė (“Renovation”), and V. Katkus (“Guest”).

The laureates will be chosen by representatives of the film industry proposed by film industry associations and those who have submitted their candidacies, as well as former “Silver Crane” laureates.

This year’s committee consisted of cinematographer and director Linas Žiūra, producer Klementina Remeikaitė, director Linas Mikuta, producer Giedrė Burokaitė, film critic Rūta Oginskaitė, composer Linas Rimša, director Gediminas Šiaulys, actress Gabija Jaraminaitė, and film critic Neringa Kažukauskaitė.

The national film awards “Silver Crane” are organized by the AVAKA association together with the Lithuanian Film Centre and have been held since 2008.
