Although the song title sounds threatening, the performer himself smiles – in reality, he is quite different. “The song was born quite unexpectedly – from the bass line riff. I wanted to create an energetic, strong piece, but at the same time make a kind of caricature, because in fact I am a completely non-angry person. Even the main idea of the song is to learn to find anger within yourself. After all, in the chorus I sing: ‘And I am angry at myself, because I don’t know how to be angry at all.’

Anger, misdirected
In the first part of the piece, Pijus Opera consciously exaggerates everyday human indignation – from absurd anger at bars to Plato. But later the song turns around. “At first, I deliberately grotesquely pour out anger on things completely unrelated to it. I wanted to reflect our habit of being angry at anything. And in the second part of the song, I realize that I am actually angry at myself, and that is why I project that anger where it doesn’t belong at all.” According to the performer, the piece was also born from personal reflections on how we deal with emotions. “I think we all feel impulses of anger – they are inevitable. But when we don’t find a way to sublimate them, they become self-destructive. For me, creativity is a way to release that anger so that others have to bear as little of it as possible,” says Pijus Opera.
“ANGRY” also marks a new stage in Pijus Opera’s creative work. The piece was recorded only with live instruments, abandoning programmed sounds. This is the direction the performer has been moving in for some time – combining rap rhythms with elements of funk and jazz.
A clip about life, not death
The new piece is accompanied by a video clip created by director Domas Merkliopas, featuring Vilma Raubaitė, Rytis Saladžius, Vaidilė Juozaitytė, and other actors, with the action taking place at a funeral. However, according to the director, this is not a story about death. “Although the action takes place at a funeral, for me this clip is not about death. It is about people. About what happens inside us and what we often don’t tell ourselves or others because it seems that feeling that way is not ‘right.’” For him, anger in this piece is also not a synonym for aggression.
“The song’s lyrics talk about anger, but for me that anger is not aggression. It is more about a person’s relationship with themselves. Being human and accepting all your feelings is one of the hardest tasks we work on every day. That’s why I saw this song as a transformation, not a story about anger in the literal sense.”

Why does the clip’s action take place specifically at a funeral? According to Domas Merkliopas, it is a place where human contradictions are especially revealed. “At funerals, the paradox of life is very clearly seen. In one space, people mourn, in another someone jokes, someone asks a tactless question, someone drinks one glass too many. Life never happens according to a script, even in such moments. To me, that absurdity seems very real and very human.”
The visual language of the clip was inspired by the films of directors Roy Andersson and Yorgos Lanthimos – static shots, slow pace, and the possibility to simply observe people. “I wanted to step back from today’s usual music videos, where often the most important thing is a beautiful image. It was more important for me to create an atmosphere that would feel familiar and real – like a funeral you might have attended yourself.”
The director says that the performer’s trust was very important for this result. “Pijus gave complete creative freedom. He said the song has its own idea, and the clip can be my vision. Such trust in creativity is rare and very necessary.”
Turning anger into mass therapy
The new single will be performed live on August 1 at the Summer Terrace in Vilnius. As in previous group performances, listeners can expect not only songs but also improvisations, freestyle, and live instrumental arrangements. If in the single “ANGRY” anger becomes an inner conversation with oneself, at the concert it will turn into a shared ritual – one after which it will likely be easier to let go of what we often carry inside us
