As indicated by the Kaunas Fire and Rescue Department, at about 4:20 a.m. a report was received that a house was on fire on Dobilėlio Street in the village of Samylai.

Upon arrival, the summer house was burning with open flames, the roof had collapsed, and the walls were burned. At about 4:40 a.m., firefighters with breathing apparatus entered the building and disconnected the power supply.
At around 5:20 a.m., a severely burned human body was found.
During the fire, the summer house was completely burned down, a residential house about ten meters from the fire site was damaged, and a battery-powered lawn mower melted.

Water to extinguish the fire was brought from the Kaunas Lagoon, located about four kilometers from the fire site.
