Analyzing smartphone purchases over a six-month period ending in March 2026, it was revealed that new iPhone users, previously using Android, more often choose not the most expensive models, but simpler and cheaper devices. This is reported by Techworld.

The most important thing is not the features, but the Apple ecosystem
According to the study, long-time iPhone users more often seek the latest processors, advanced cameras, and more powerful batteries. Meanwhile, for people switching from Android, the most important thing is the ability to use the Apple ecosystem – services like iMessage and FaceTime.
For this reason, they more often choose basic or previous generation iPhone models.
More often choose cheaper models
During the analyzed period, 17% of former Android users purchased the iPhone 16 or iPhone 16 Plus, while among long-time Apple customers, only 12% chose these models.
According to researchers, there are two main reasons for this:
Android users are accustomed to a wide and varied price range of phones, so they naturally tend to lean towards more affordable iPhone models.

The biggest change for them is the operating system itself, so the additional features of the more expensive Pro models often do not seem important enough to justify paying more.
Popular are also the cheapest iPhones
This trend is also seen among the cheapest Apple phones.
9% of former Android users chose the iPhone 16e, compared to 6% of long-time Apple customers.
5% of those switching from Android purchased the iPhone 17e, while among long-time iPhone users, only 1% chose this model.
One exception surprised researchers
However, there is one model that both user groups chose almost equally often – the iPhone 17 Pro Max.
The most expensive Apple flagship was chosen by 27% of long-time iPhone users and even 25% of former Android owners. This shows that some new Apple customers who decided to switch to iOS immediately choose a top-tier device.
