Poland received the first payment of 6.6 billion euros under the SAFE instrument

According to the EC press release, this funding will help Poland accelerate priority investments in defense, increase resilience, and modernize its military capabilities to achieve common European goals.

The SAFE instrument is designed to enable rapid, coordinated actions, improve the ability of European forces to operate together, and strengthen the European defense industry.

“Europe must be prepared for any scenario and ready to act under any circumstances. The SAFE loan program is an important element of this mission – it is a crucial tool to ensure and develop the urgently needed military capabilities for our continent,” said Henna Virkkunen, EC Executive Vice-President responsible for technological sovereignty, security, and democracy.

Commissioner for Defense and Space Andrius Kubilius stated that this “is a concrete step forward towards our common security,” which “will help accelerate investments and strengthen Europe’s preparedness through closer cooperation and joint capabilities.”
