The interests of the 13-year-old suspected of beating the girl are represented by another well-known Kaunas lawyer, Aušra Ručienė.
“According to initial data, the victim suffered several dozen blows with hands, feet, and a phone held in the hand. Other persons nearby watched and filmed the incident, and the recording with violent images against the minor spread on social networks the same evening. After the incident, the victim felt unwell and was taken to a medical facility,” the prosecutor’s office stated.
Deputy Police Commissioner Marius Draudvila says that law enforcement knows the minors involved in and filming the Marijampolė incident, and they are currently being questioned.
The Deputy Police Commissioner noted that the minors involved in the incident cannot be held criminally liable due to their age, but other measures may be applied to them, and the responsibility lies with the parents.
The families were known to specialists
Specialists from the Child Rights Protection and Adoption Service in Marijampolė told LRT radio that police officers contacted the service on Monday.
It appears that both families – the victim’s and the suspected abuser’s – were already known to the service earlier. Work had been done with the families.
According to Ilma Skuodienė, Director of the State Child Rights Protection and Adoption Service, the response to the violence incident in Marijampolė was made the same day, and help began to be provided to both the victim’s and the suspected abuser’s families.

“The families are definitely cooperative; help was initiated for one family, and an urgent help plan will be arranged for them on how to overcome and help change behavior, how to learn non-violent communication, how to solve problems, how to build relationships and dialogue,” said I. Skuodienė.
The head of the service also said that information was received from the police about eight other minors involved in the incident.
