The 33-year-old ultra-conservative commentator, who has millions of followers online, recently abandoned her anti-Ukraine stance and began supporting its resistance to the Russian invasion launched in 2022.
The meeting with V. Zelensky was confirmed to AFP by the Ukrainian leader’s advisor Dmytro Lytvyn.
On Monday, L. Loomer, who had previously opposed US military and financial aid to Ukraine, posted a video of herself on a train in Ukraine, and on Tuesday she recounted how she survived an air raid in Kyiv.
“This is everyday life for every Ukrainian, I feel so stupid for belittling the Ukrainian struggle for the past five years,” she said of the experience.
“Some of us had the audacity to say that Russia was not wrong because we believed the lie that Ukraine is a country full of Nazi sympathizers. We were so strongly affected by Russian propaganda that we don’t even realize it,” she added.
V. Zelensky’s office welcomed L. Loomer’s visit, stating that it was important for her to see the events in Ukraine personally.
D. Trump has clashed with V. Zelensky in the past, but has recently spoken out in favor of Ukraine. The US president said last month that he would allow Ukraine to produce “Patriot” missiles for its air defense systems.
