“The last time I played outside was when I was 22 – then I broke my ankle in half. It was after my first season in Paris. There were five days left before I left for Paris for the second season, and I was playing with kids at a charity event in Pittsburgh. Something happened, I fell, and my ankle was just twisted the other way. No one knows about this story, but when I was brought to the hospital, the doctors thought I had been in an accident. I was supposed to return to the court only in May, but I came back in December, able to play only with half a foot and shooting three-pointers from the corner – it was very bad. So I came back, but then the COVID-19 pandemic started – for me, it was a blessing that taught me a lot about myself,” shared D. Sleva about the past.
