Recycling tax rates will soon exceed the price of the cars themselves… Why are we doing this, what kind of union can we talk about?” – said A. In Russia, a significant increase in recycling tax rates and changes in their calculation procedures came into effect on December 1, 2025. Later, Kazakhstan also decided to increase the rates. Belarus increased recycling tax rates by 7% at the end of April 2026.

From April 1, Russia tightened the rules for car imports through Belarus, Kazakhstan, Armenia, and Kyrgyzstan. The unified recycling tax formula is now linked to the indicators of the Russian Ministry of Industry and Trade, which affects the final car price for Russian buyers.

At the beginning of May, Kazakhstan introduced a “mirror” recycling tax on cars imported from Russia.
