Weather forecasters about this year's summer in Lithuania: what to expect and when is the best time to vacation

According to meteorologists, what the summer will be like is mostly a matter of speculation: “One should not believe all the elaborate sayings that a cold winter supposedly determines a hot summer or vice versa. If such a connection really existed, we could make reliable seasonal forecasts in advance.

However, weather changes a lot in Lithuania, so during the summer there are several periods of warmer and cooler weather.

Long-term forecasts currently show that summer in our region should be at least a little warmer and drier than the average during the 1991–2020 period. However, such calculations show similar results almost every year, as they partly rely on long-term trends,” states the “Meteo LT” post on Facebook.

It turns out that out of the past ten summers (2016–2025), 7 in Lithuania were warmer, only 2 were cooler than average, and 1 was close to the norm (the average summer air temperature in Lithuania is 17.3 °C).

“So, even statistically, there is a higher chance that this summer may be at least a little warmer than average. On the other hand, the same could be said last year. However, in 2025 it was slightly cooler than the 1991–2020 average.

For those planning holidays in Lithuania, we remind you that the warmest and most suitable period for swimming is the second half of July and the first half of August. Choosing to vacation during this period gives the lowest chance of getting burned (i.e., very cool weather),” advise the meteorologists.

However, they assure that, as every summer, it is most likely impossible to avoid heavy and localized downpours, when in just a few hours half or even more of the monthly norm falls in one part of a larger city (or district), while in another part the dry period continues.

“Moreover, during the summer there are several stormier days when not only heavy rain, more intense thunderstorms, hail, but also squalls are recorded. It is estimated that various natural disasters cause increasing damage in Lithuania, so we wish you to avoid them and to enjoy it if the forecasted disasters once again bypass your home.
