Fire at Russian Leningrad region oil refinery after drone attack

A fire broke out at an oil refinery in Russia’s Leningrad region after a drone crashed nearby, local officials reported on Sunday.

Kyiv continues its campaign targeting Russia’s energy infrastructure.
“Reports have been received that an unmanned aerial vehicle crashed at an oil refinery in the Kirishi district; a fire broke out, special services are working at the scene,” wrote Leningrad region governor Alexander Drozdenko on the Telegram platform, without specifying if there were any casualties.
He added that during ongoing air defense operations over the Leningrad region, 42 drones were shot down.

CIA director John Ratcliffe, during a visit to Moscow, proposed holding a trilateral meeting of US President Donald Trump, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, and Russian President Vladimir Putin aimed at ending the war. This was reported by “Axios” based on its sources.
On Tuesday, J. Ratcliffe secretly arrived in Moscow and met with heads of Russian intelligence agencies – Foreign Intelligence Service Director Sergey Naryshkin and Federal Security Service head Alexander Bortnikov. The publication notes that this was the first time J. Ratcliffe personally engaged in diplomatic efforts to end Russia’s war against Ukraine.
“According to sources, one of the goals of J. Ratcliffe’s visit was to find out whether the heads of Russian intelligence agencies could help persuade V. Putin to resume US-mediated negotiations with Ukraine,” writes “Axios.”
It is also reported that on Friday US officials informed V. Zelensky about J. Ratcliffe’s negotiations in Moscow and the proposal to hold a trilateral summit.
According to the publication’s sources, US officials also informed V. Zelensky that J. Ratcliffe raised the possibility of resuming peace talks in Moscow.
Earlier, “The New York Times” reported that J. Ratcliffe gave A. Bortnikov a “grim assessment of the war situation” and urged Russia to make a deal before its position worsened further.
According to “Axios” sources, after the meeting J. Ratcliffe concluded that A. Bortnikov is a constructive actor who could help renew diplomatic efforts.
V. Putin does not intend to stop
Analysts note that Russia faces increasing difficulties: its forces on the front move more slowly, war costs are rising, and Ukraine’s long-range strikes increasingly reach targets on Russian territory. Nevertheless, V. Putin shows no intention of abandoning his goals.
Ukrainian officials, in turn, are highly skeptical of V. Putin’s intentions and say Russia plans to escalate the war more sharply.
Deputy head of the Ukrainian presidential office Pavlo Palisa stated that Russian generals have been ordered to prepare several offensive scenarios in Northern Ukraine. Kyiv and Chernihiv are named among the main possible directions of the offensive.
According to him, Russia also intends to create a buffer zone up to 20 kilometers deep in the Kharkiv, Sumy, and Chernihiv regions, which could later be further expanded.
