VRK started an investigation into the services provided by Laura Matjošaitytė to "Nemuno aušra"

This commission will act once it becomes clear that one of the legal documents sent to the commission by “Nemuno aušros” in 2024, “On the sources of political party financing,” was prepared by L. Matjošaitytė.

Neither the party nor the current VRK member declared their former cooperation.

The decision to start the investigation was made by the commission with nine members voting “for” and Justas Pankauskas abstaining. Edita Karčiauskienė, submitted by “Nemuno aušros” to the VRK, recused herself from the vote.

The VRK was tasked with conducting the investigation by December 17.

“I think we should start an investigation to clarify and be able to assess the scale, scope, and type of services provided to the political party,” proposed VRK chair Lina Petronienė before the vote.

She previously called the situation “very unpleasant,” emphasizing that party campaign financing requirements are related to election transparency and the resilience of democracy.

However, she stated that she could not take measures to dismiss the VRK member, as this can only be done by the appointing institution, in this case – the Seimas.

Moreover, the situation regarding L. Matjošaitytė and “Nemuno aušros” cooperation is being investigated by the Chief Official Ethics Commission (VTEK). It intends to decide whether to investigate a possible conflict of public and private interests of the VRK member.

From 2017 to 2021, L. Matjošaitytė was the chair of the VRK. She returned to the commission member position in 2025 by the Seimas decision, after her candidacy was submitted by Rimantas Mockus, then Minister of Justice, delegated by “Nemuno aušros.”

Initially refusing to disclose whether she received payment from the party, the lawyer later reported that she did not earn money. She refuses to comment on the details of professional relations with “Nemuno aušra,” citing attorney-client privilege.
