The new UK prime minister previously said that in a phone call later on Monday he intends to tell the President of Ukraine that the country’s support for Kyiv will remain “strong and resolute.”
“Later today I will make it very clear to President Zelensky that there are no changes. I will be with him 100 percent,” A. Burnham, who replaced Keir Starmer (Kira Starmer) after two years as UK prime minister, told broadcasters.
Meanwhile, V. Zelensky also welcomed the new UK prime minister.
“Congratulations to Andy Burnham on taking office as Prime Minister of the United Kingdom,” he wrote on social networks.

“Great Britain has always been one of the world leaders. We are ready to work together in all possible formats,” the president said, adding that “the foundation of our bilateral relations is stronger than ever before and we will continue to strengthen each other.”
The UK has become one of Ukraine’s main allies during Russia’s large-scale war, providing significant military and financial aid and playing a key role in various international initiatives such as the Coalition of the Willing.
No changes are expected in UK-Ukraine relations with A. Burnham taking the prime minister’s post. As mayor of Greater Manchester, he sought close cooperation with Ukrainian city mayors and supported humanitarian initiatives for the war-torn country.
