Ukrainian media named Serhiy Koretsky, head of the state energy company “Naftogaz,” as the main candidate to replace her.

Since 2022, when it invaded the country, Russia has struck Ukraine’s energy network every winter, leaving millions without electricity and heating during freezing cold.

“If we are approaching winter, we must prepare. We have been preparing for a long time, but the priorities are clear: preparation for winter,” V. Zelensky said at a press conference together with visiting EU leader Ursula von der Leyen.

“After all consultations, S. Koretsky is probably the best-prepared person for the position of Ukraine’s prime minister,” he added.

V. Zelensky met with S. Koretsky over the weekend – after announcing plans to dismiss J. Svyrydenko – and praised his effective leadership in a very challenging sector.
