BNS wrote that Saulius Skvernelis, who had served as the leader of the Democrats until then, resigned from his post in the spring. The politician did so after it became clear that the prosecutor’s office would seek to lift his legal immunity while investigating a case of corruption in the State Plant Service.
According to V. Sinkevičius, the party successfully overcame this challenge and proved that it is not a one-man party.
“I believe that today we will turn a new page for our community with a very clear experience that we have passed the exam,” said the MEP.

“You are living proof that this party, this community, has never been and never will be a one-man party. Its backbone, the people who hold it together, are you,” he emphasized.
The ruling Democratic Union “Vardan Lietuvos” is holding a congress in Vilnius district on Saturday, where it will elect a permanent party chairman from two candidates – V. Sinkevičius and Minister of Health Linas Kukuraitis.
