“It is gratifying that the municipal scholarship program is operating and successfully creating mutual benefits – already more than fifty students who have chosen meaningful studies needed by our community have secured not only financial support but also future jobs and career prospects right here in the Vilnius district. At the same time, our institutions will receive the best specialists in their fields,” says Robertas Duchnevičius, Mayor of Vilnius district municipality.

Currently, the Vilnius district municipality has signed 53 contracts with students who have chosen priority fields of study, of which 38 are future teachers, 11 are social work students, and 4 are general practice nursing students.

“We review and improve the scholarship program annually, adapting it to the dynamic needs of the growing Vilnius district. Today, the scholarship becomes accessible both to students starting their path and to specialists who already have higher education and have decided to retrain as teachers in fields lacking in the district. We plan to announce the call for scholarship applications based on an expanded list of 20 specialties already in August,” says Edita Tamošiūnaitė, Deputy Mayor of Vilnius district municipality.

Updated list of priority specialties:

  • Pedagogical studies: speech therapy, special pedagogy, psychology, Lithuanian philology, English philology, Polish philology, primary education, preschool education, mathematics, physics, biology, chemistry, information technology, and vocational pedagogy studies (for those with higher education corresponding to the district’s priority specialties and seeking to obtain teacher qualifications);
  • Social work studies: social work;
  • Public health, nutrition, and food technology studies: public health, food science and nutrition;
  • Health sciences studies: general practice nursing, advanced practice nursing, and healthy lifestyle.

Citizens of the Republic of Lithuania who have declared residence in the Vilnius district are eligible to receive a monthly municipal scholarship of 250 euros. This support can be used not only by bachelor’s or master’s program students but also by individuals who already have higher education and seek to retrain or obtain professional pedagogical qualifications.

Scholarship holders are also provided with opportunities to complete mandatory internships in Vilnius district institutions. By signing a bilateral agreement, students commit to working in Vilnius district municipality institutions for at least 3 or 4 years (within a 5-year period) after graduation.

After the official call is announced, candidates for the municipal scholarship must submit the required documents (a free-form application, a certificate of declared residence, a certificate from the higher education institution, and a motivation letter) to the municipal administration by email at vrsa@vrsa.lt by September 30 of this year.

Last year, municipal scholarships were paid to 58 students – a total of 110 thousand euros was allocated from the municipal budget for this purpose.
