This tradition has been nurtured in Kaunas since 2011. The Teacher of the Year award is a symbolic city gratitude to people who daily nurture the future residents of Kaunas with their knowledge and dedication.

This recognizes the professionalism of teachers, a creative approach to work, initiatives, dedication, and contribution to the high quality of city education.
“Teachers are people who help children strengthen their knowledge, believe in themselves, discover what they are good at, and boldly move forward. Strong leaders of educational institutions create an environment where not only students but also teachers themselves grow successfully.
The city, in turn, ensures that the educational community has quality conditions to improve. We consistently invest in the development and renewal of educational infrastructure,” said Kaunas Deputy Mayor Mantas Jurgutis.
This year, the Teacher of the Year awards will be given to: Aistė Kavolienė (expert dance teacher at Kaunas Mikas Petrauskas School of Performing Arts), Eisvina Burbaitė (preschool teacher at Kaunas nursery-kindergarten “Boružėlė”), Laura Dirsė (speech therapist methodologist at Kaunas nursery-kindergarten “Pasaka”), Daiva Brukienė (expert English teacher at Kaunas S. Darius and S. Girėnas Gymnasium), and Paulina Jacyne (physics and mathematics teacher at Kaunas Martynas Mažvydas Progymnasium).

Three heads of Kaunas educational institutions will also be awarded – Rasa Bortkevičienė (director of Kaunas Education Innovation Center), Regina Beinorienė (director of Kaunas nursery-kindergarten “Vaikystė”), and Mindaugas Labanauskas (director of Kaunas 1st Music School).
The award is given for significant changes in the activities of the educational institution and conceptual work in the field of education, shaping and implementing the city’s education policy.
The celebration taking place on October 13 at the “Žalgiris” arena will bring together the entire Kaunas educational community. Specialists from schools and gymnasiums, nursery-kindergartens, informal and private education teachers, heads of educational institutions, their colleagues, and relatives will meet there.
During the celebration, the Teacher of the Year and Leader of the Year awards will be presented, other heads of educational institutions will be honored, and thanks will be given to other people who contribute to the city’s education through their work.
