Vilnius District Council rejected the proposal to establish a historical memory commission

12 council members voted for this project, seven against, and 11 abstained.

As stated in the explanatory note, there is currently a lack of a unified, systematic procedure in the municipality that would allow for the advance assessment of problematic commemoration cases, so this often happens in response to arising situations, which is why “there is a reputational risk for the municipality, an increased likelihood of public discord, and it is difficult to ensure uniform practice.”
