Urged to purchase generators
“We inform that due to the strong windstorm in part of the Viešvilė eldership territory, especially in remote areas and villages, the electricity supply is currently disrupted. ESO specialists are working in an intensified mode and are fixing faults as much as possible, but due to the large number of damages across Lithuania, the work may take time,” – it is written on the Viešvilė eldership’s Facebook page.

Through the mediation of the mayor, the Viešvilė eldership received 11 generators, which were distributed to residents to ensure minimal electricity needs.
“Considering the extreme weather conditions in recent days and recurring electricity supply disruptions, we recommend residents to purchase generators themselves, especially those living in remote areas.
If you need urgent help, please contact the eldership,” – it is written in the post.
Part of the district – without connection
Jurbarkas district mayor Skirmantas Mockevičius reported that on Monday, together with eldership leaders, they are assessing the consequences of the storm locally, but in some areas there is still no connection.
“I ask everyone who knows that help is needed for your neighbors, especially in remote areas, to inform your elderships or the municipal administration. I also convey information from ESO that they are making every effort, involving our institution employees as well, to restore electricity supply,” – he writes on his Facebook page.

Hundreds of thousands without electricity
The head of the Energy Distribution Operator (ESO), Renaldas Radvila, states that the storm that swept across Lithuania over the weekend was extraordinary, more than a third stronger than two years ago – its scale hinders faster elimination of the storm’s consequences.
“The most affected districts are Utena, Kaunas, Vilnius, and Panevėžys. In these, the restoration of electricity supply to the very last customers may take until August 29, that is until Saturday,” – said R. Radvila.
As BNS wrote, on Monday morning electricity supply was still disrupted for about 129 thousand users.
According to ESO data, the maximum number of disruptions was recorded on Saturday evening, when 268 thousand users had no electricity. According to meteorologists, Saturday’s storm was the strongest this summer.
According to R. Radvila, after the 2024 summer storm, ESO purchased 200 additional electric generators, of which 183 have been delivered to 16 municipalities so far.
