„Via Lietuva“: nearly 90 million euros collected for the State Road Fund in the first half of the year

The financing model, which has been in operation for half a year, ensures that funds obtained from transport-related taxes and fees are promptly directed towards improving the quality of the country’s road network. From the Road Fund, contractors have already been paid 36.2 million euros for completed works. Of these, 78% of the paid funds consist of revenues collected from the road user charge (vignettes).

Compared to the first quarter of this year, 26% more funds were collected in the second quarter for the State Road Fund – 50 million euros. The largest part of this growth was made up of the fund revenues administered by the Ministry of Finance, which increased by 35% compared to the first quarter.

According to the State Road Fund Act, the Road Fund budget consists of two main parts formed by different institutions. In the first half of 2026, 51.7 million euros were collected into the fund’s account. This amount consists of revenues from motor vehicle registration fees, fines for traffic rule violations, and the sale of confiscated property, as well as fees for freight vehicles registered in Lithuania.

The remaining part – 38.2 million euros – consists of funds collected by its manager “Via Lietuva.” As much as 93% of this amount was revenue from the road user charge (vignettes), and the remaining funds were obtained from fees for traffic restrictions and driving of oversized vehicles.

The Ministry of Finance and “Via Lietuva” transfer funds to the Road Fund account quarterly. This procedure ensures uninterrupted financing necessary for the sustainable maintenance, supervision, and development of the state-significant road network.

The State Road Fund was established to create a long-term and predictable road infrastructure financing mechanism. Fund resources are used exclusively for implementing state-significant road projects, introducing safe traffic measures, and maintaining the quality of existing infrastructure.
