According to the municipality’s report, 18 lamps illuminating the sculptures at night were broken.
“It is painful to see such a vandalistic response to our efforts to nurture, maintain, and beautify public spaces. The illuminated sculptures in Šepka Park looked impressive, so who was bothered by that? We have handed over all the park’s camera footage to the police. They are now investigating, and we hope the vandals will be identified,” said the municipality’s administration director Valerijus Rancevas on Friday.
Šepka Park is adorned with 70 sculptures created by carvers during plein airs. The Rokiškis district municipality installed a special system to illuminate all of them.
As informed by the deputy mayor of Rokiškis city, Egidijus Žaliauskas, the lamps were noticed to be broken these days.
In total, 70 lamps are installed in the park near each sculpture, 18 were damaged. The financial loss alone amounts to 1620 euros.
