This is a rare airstrike in the partially autonomous Palestinian territory, where tensions have been rising recently.
“Some time ago, the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) carried out a precise strike against several terrorists in the Jenin area. More details will be provided later,” the brief military statement said.
In the West Bank, where the Palestinian Authority operates, violence by Jewish settlers has sharply increased, but the area has mostly avoided Israeli military airstrikes, which devastated the Gaza Strip after the Hamas attacks on October 7, 2023.
At the beginning of 2025, the military launched a large-scale operation in the northern West Bank targeting refugee camps, aiming, as stated, to strike Palestinian armed groups.
In February of the same year, tanks were deployed to Jenin, known as a stronghold of Palestinian fighters.

According to the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA), this large-scale operation forced nearly 40,000 people to leave the camps.
Based on calculations by the AFP news agency, using Palestinian Authority data, at least 1,100 Palestinians have been killed in the West Bank by Israeli soldiers or settlers since the October 7, 2023 attack on Israel from the Gaza Strip, including several armed fighters.
Official Israeli data shows that during the same period, at least 48 Israelis – civilians and soldiers – have been killed in Palestinian attacks or Israeli military operations.
Israel has occupied the West Bank since 1967. Under the Oslo Accords signed in the 1990s, limited self-rule was granted to the Palestinian Authority, whose ruling Fatah movement competes with Hamas.
