Law enforcement and politicians confirm that the real estate register was hacked using the electronic mailboxes and passwords of at least two Migration Department employees, and more than 600,000 records were collected from January to April.
Prime Minister Inga Ruginienė admitted to learning about the data leak on April 3, while the prosecutor’s office started a pre-trial investigation in mid-April.

Prime Minister Inga Ruginienė insisted that the public was not informed about the incident all this time to avoid harming the investigation, but the Attorney General Nida Grunskienė denied this: she confirmed that the Registries Center was allowed to inform the public from May 8.
It turns out that the Registries Center did not do so immediately due to technical and legal reasons, after consultations with the State Data Protection Inspectorate.
Inga Ruginienė and three members of her cabinet also remained silent about the incident.
However, the prosecutor’s office planned to provide the information even later than it did, but rushed to disseminate it upon realizing that it would be published in the media.
15min collected the latest detailed chronology showing which institutions learned about the incident and when, how quickly they responded, and the reasons for such reactions.
