Tommy Cimato, with 16 years of flight attendant experience, warns that it is unhygienic for passengers to lean on airplane windows, as they may not be very clean.
“You are not the only person who has done that, and you don’t know how many people or children have touched that window with their hands or something else,” he said.
Many passengers like to relax or nap during flights. However, Tommy emphasized that microbes on airplane surfaces can remain just as they do on any surface at home. He also urged travelers not to choose shorts for the flight.
“Do not wear or try not to wear shorts on the plane. It’s the same as with the window – you never know how clean it will be, so if you wear long pants, fewer microbes will get on you,” added the flight attendant.
Nevertheless, travelers often choose shorts on the plane for greater comfort.
The travel expert also shared hygiene tips regarding airplane toilets.

“Never touch the flush button with bare hands. In fact, it’s very unhygienic and quite disgusting, so when flushing, use a tissue or paper napkin found in the toilet,” he said.
Deanna Castro, who has worked as a flight attendant for about 15 years, also advises passengers to always step into their own line when boarding the plane so that other passengers can pass.
“When boarding, politely enter your own line and let other passengers pass behind you,” she told InsideHook. “It’s perfectly normal to take a few extra minutes to prepare, but please step aside into the line and wait until the aisle traffic decreases.”
