Ukraine’s 36th Marine Brigade announced on social media on Wednesday that it thwarted “another enemy” psychological operation aimed at portraying a village in the Donetsk region of eastern Ukraine as having fallen under Russian occupation.
The Ukrainian unit stated that two Russian soldiers were sent to “infiltrate” the village of Oleksiyiv-Druzhkivka to film a video claiming the settlement’s “capture.”

“However, within a few hours, these ‘screen stars’ were caught by scouts of the 36th Separate Marine Brigade,” the Ukrainian unit announced.
“Ukrainian land is no place for Russian fairy tales… We continue to hold the defense and spoil all the Russians’ victorious film scripts,” it added.
The unit released drone footage showing, according to them, two Russian soldiers posing by the village name sign. It is claimed that both soldiers were taken prisoner by Ukraine within “a few hours.”

According to Ukrainian media, Russian forces regularly film footage claiming they have captured territories that are actually still controlled by Ukraine or remain contested on the battlefield.
The US-based analytical center, the Institute for the Study of War, reported in May that Russia is increasingly using AI-generated videos depicting alleged frontline victories amid slow real military progress.
The institute noted that the Kremlin continues to exaggerate “reports of gains and flag-raising infiltration missions, attempting to portray them as a broad front offensive to falsely depict the front as collapsing across the battlefield.”
