Mayor Simone Venturini told The Associated Press that the current 10-euro fee for last-minute bookings is not enough to deter visitors on peak days. Instead of setting a higher fixed fee, the city wants to introduce a dynamic pricing model that allows the fee to increase depending on demand on the most visited days.
S. Venturini stated that this system would not only help avoid overcrowding but also help cover the city’s maintenance costs.
“The physical maintenance costs of Venice alone amount to 100 million euros per year, and no one gives us that money. Neither Europe nor the Italian state. International critics also do not pay for it. This is paid for by the residents of Venice, and partly – from tourism taxes,” said S. Venturini, who was recently elected mayor. He previously served as the city’s chief tourism officer when the day-visitor fee was introduced in 2024.

Venice earned more than 5 million euros from tourists
15min reminds that from April to July, entry to the city cost travelers between 5 and 10 euros. During this period, more than 650 thousand people paid the fee, according to the dpa news agency.
The city authorities evaluated this experiment as successful and therefore propose to increase the entry price to 30–50 euros during the peak tourist season next year.
