On Saturday afternoon, the familiar show “First Times” returns to the screens of “Lietuvos rytas” television, but in its ninth season, it comes not only renewed but also with a new title – “Life Belongs to You”.
This change also marks a new stage of the show, where even more attention will be given to human health, well-being, and decisions that can fundamentally change the quality of life. For eight seasons, the show “First Times” told inspiring stories of people, shared useful advice, and reminded us – you live as long as there are first times in life, but through many conversations with the show’s heroes, another important theme emerged: although many of us know what we could do differently, the determination to truly change our lives rarely comes in one day.
Often, it is not an internal decision but unexpected circumstances that force us to take care of ourselves. We change our diet when health problems remind us, we decide to move more after hearing a doctor’s warning, and the many times we promised ourselves “I’ll start tomorrow” is remembered when there is no more time to delay. “Life Belongs to You” will talk about the decisions we can make for ourselves – through open, genuine, and unfeigned stories of people and moments that made them stop, review their habits, and choose change.
The first story was very personal for the show’s host Tomas Grigaitis. This time, he spoke on camera for the first time about an experience that he and his wife Viktorija had not yet made public. Today, the couple cradles their daughter Gabriela in their arms, but the path to parenthood was very different from what they expected. Expecting a child is often associated with one of the most beautiful stages of life, but Viktorija’s first pregnancy ended in a painful loss, followed by six months that Tomas today calls one of the hardest in their lives.
“From that period, we took away the lesson that it is very important not to give up, even if it doesn’t work out. After the first unsuccessful pregnancy, we went to a shrine to the Virgin Mary, where all parents go with a request – to be blessed. And what do you think? We returned from Greece not alone,” Tomas recalls on the show.
However, after the previous loss, the Grigaitis family could not calmly enjoy the newly conceived pregnancy, as Viktorija was accompanied not only by fear but also health problems. Still, the greatest trial for the family awaited at the very end of the journey. During childbirth, the situation suddenly became critical, and the medical team gathered in the ward had to fight for the girl’s life. The couple does not hide – it is difficult to talk about those moments even today.
“The childbirth was very difficult. Gabriela came into this world with what is called an angel’s kiss on her body because she barely survived. The umbilical cord was wrapped around her neck, and Gabriela herself was stuck in the birth canal. It was already too late to perform a cesarean section, so she had to be born naturally, although there was not enough strength for that,” the couple reveals about their daughter’s difficult birth.
Viktorija says she understood how critical the situation was from the suddenly changed atmosphere in the delivery room. She still remembers the moment when the medical team of just a few was suddenly replaced by many more specialists, and the first sound from the newborn daughter had to be waited for.
“We still remember the situation when silence fell in the ward and instead of a couple of doctors, suddenly there were twelve or thirteen. A newborn child usually makes the first sound immediately, but Gabriela did not make any sound for a very long time. Today, we bow to the Kaunas clinics and thank the doctors for saving her, although the doctors say it was God and her own fight for her life,” the girl’s parents share these emotional moments.

Today, Tomas and Viktorija can remember the hardest moments while holding healthy and growing Gabriela in their arms. After the dramatic birth, the family finally began the stage they had been waiting for so long – life as three. However, along with great joy, a completely new daily routine arrived at home. Sleepless nights, fatigue, chores, and a completely changed life rhythm became a challenge not only for each individually but also for their relationship.
Still, Gabriela’s birth forced Tomas and Viktorija to rearrange their priorities and understand that sometimes life is fundamentally changed not by big plans but by a tiny person of just a few kilograms, for whom you want to rewrite all those plans.
“It raised us as individuals, brought maturity both as a couple and as a family. There is a high percentage of couples who do not pass the parenthood test in the first year after the child’s birth and separate. Were we on that edge? Of course, we were, because everything changes from the foundations. We lived as two in our bubble, and here – we come home with a child and realize that she will be with us all our lives and that such a small person can become the whole center of your world,” Tomas insists.
Another show hero, gymnast, dancer, “Zumba Fitness” instructor, and one of the founders of “MG Dance Studio” Miglė Končienė also had to go through a painful pregnancy experience. Today she is a mother of two children, but the path to motherhood was marked not only by joyful anticipation.
“Seven years ago, I found out I was expecting triplets. That was already a big shock, and the doctors said not to expect anything very good. At the 10th week, during a visit, the doctor said that none of the hearts were beating. The second time was after a year, when again at about 9 weeks I heard that the pregnancy was not developing,” the woman shares emotional memories.
Miglė did not talk about this stage of her life for a long time. She worked, led training sessions, smiled, although inside she had to endure loss and uncertainty about whether the dream of becoming a mother would ever come true. The third time brought long-awaited joy – the family had a son, and a few years later, a daughter joined them.
