It is indicated that the strike was directed at two Russian gas condensate industry “giants” – the plants in Novy Urengoy and Purovsky in the Yamalo-Nenets Autonomous Okrug, one of the main oil and gas production regions in northern Russia.

“For the first time! A record defeat since the beginning of the war: the Special Operations Forces struck critically important Russian plants located over 3000 km away,” the forces’ representatives posted on social networks.
“The SOF drones traveled more than 3000 kilometers to the target. Until now, this territory was considered completely safe as the aggressor’s rear,” added the Special Operations Forces.
Reports of a possible attack appeared on Wednesday evening. The Telegram channel “Astra,” associated with Russian security services, reported that drones struck Yamal for the first time and that a fire broke out at the Novy Urengoy industrial facility.
The governor of the Yamalo-Nenets region, Dmitry Artyukov, confirmed that an attack took place, saying: “Today, a drone attack against one of the industrial facilities in Novy Urengoy was repelled. A fire broke out due to falling drone debris.”
D. Artyukov stated that there are no casualties or injuries, and authorities are assessing the damage caused.

This strike was carried out at a time when Ukraine has intensified attacks on Russian oil and gas infrastructure to disrupt a key source of revenue for Moscow’s war efforts.
According to the SOF, the two plants struck on Wednesday are of “critical importance” to the Russian gas condensate industry.
SOF data shows that the Novy Urengoy plant has a capacity of 19.5 million tons of raw materials per year, while the Purovsky plant processed 13.4 million tons of gas condensate in 2025.

President Volodymyr Zelenskyy stated on Thursday that Ukrainian forces struck eight Russian infrastructure facilities “serving the war.”
“Russia continues daily acts of terror against Ukraine. And every day it receives a proper response. Thanks to every soldier, to all who ensure our long-range strikes and their accuracy,” added V. Zelenskyy.
