Margarita Kirkliauskaitė, a meteorologist at the Lithuanian Hydrometeorological Service, revealed what kind of weather to expect in June. According to her, June will be about one and a half degrees warmer than usual and considerably drier.

“Meteorological summer will begin within the next few days, when daytime temperatures will reach 20-25 degrees Celsius. But meteorological summer has not started yet. We are waiting for the average daily temperature to reach 15 degrees Celsius and not drop below that,” she says.

“In recent years, very warm, humid, and unstable air masses from North Africa have often arrived in Lithuania already from June or even earlier,” she said. Such air masses bring heavy rains, storms, squalls, thunderstorms, and even hail.
According to M. Kirkliauskaitė, looking at recent years’ Junes, one of the coolest was last year. However, this June should be different.
“According to the latest data from the European Centre for Medium-Range Weather Forecasts, we can expect a June about one and a half degrees warmer and 10 percent drier,” she said.

Usually, the average daily air temperature in June is about 16 degrees Celsius, and about 68 millimeters of rain falls. It is forecasted that throughout this June, the air temperature will be higher than normal and will gradually rise towards the end of the month.
However, I must emphasize that the accuracy of monthly forecasts is really very poor.
“More precipitation is expected at the beginning of the month, and the second half of the month will be drier. From this, one can infer that anticyclones will visit Lithuania more often in the second half of the month, leading to clearer, sunnier weather, very little rain, and fairly high temperatures. If not warm, it should be hot. Nights may be a bit cooler than at the beginning of the month.”
“However, I must emphasize that the accuracy of monthly forecasts is really very poor. It is better to watch the weather for the coming days,” said M. Kirkliauskaitė.
