“Very strong squall”
T. Kantautas, a witness to the powerful storm, shared what he saw.
“It was a severe storm. I was driving from Lazdijai to Leipalingis, and it was just a strong storm – trees started to bend, there was very heavy rain and visibility was about 1 meter, so I had to stop. Then hail began to fall – not very large, but judging by the sound, there were also bigger hailstones,” the meteorologist told 15min.

He said that because of the storm’s consequences, he had to choose a different route home, as the road connecting Leipalingis and Merkinė was impassable due to fallen trees.
“That was it for me – I turned around and am going home by another road, because I think it will take a while to clear the whole road (…) The road is completely blocked – forced by trees,” T. Kantautas said.

He said he saw a supercell that caused the powerful squall.
“This fully matched all the parameters and even from the photo – exactly the shape that supercells have (…) It was a very strong squall,” the meteorologist emphasized.
According to him, the hailstones were up to 1 cm, but sometimes larger ones fell, which caused some damage to his car: “I found a few spots on the roof where the paint is damaged.”
