The two-year awaited return happened: Airinė Palšytė – champion once again

A.Palšytė, who celebrated her 34th birthday a week and a half ago, dropped out of the lineup back in 2024 at the Paris Olympic Games.

The Lithuanian, who pushed off for the jump, suffered an anterior cruciate ligament injury on the Olympic stage, and over the past two years, A.Palšytė had to endure several operations and a constantly postponed return date.

Finally, after waiting 721 days, the jumper returned during the national championship that started in Palanga.

With her first jump, A.Palšytė slightly rattled the bar, but cleared 160 cm and accompanied her jump with a smile.

Warming up her legs, the jumper also cleared the bars set at 165 and 175 cm, which brought her gold – no other athlete jumped higher than 170 cm.

  • A.Palšytė also became the Lithuanian champion in 2010, 2012, 2013, 2014, 2015, 2016, 2017, 2018, 2021, 2022, and 2024.

Remaining alone in the competition, A.Palšytė tried to clear 180 cm, but she failed to do so in three attempts.

The best career result of the 2017 European Indoor Champion and four-time Olympic participant is 201 cm. This is also the Lithuanian national record.

Second place in the Lithuanian championship was shared, and silver medals will be received by two athletes – Evelina Bukauskaitė and Urtė Baikštytė, who both cleared 170 cm.
