About the possibility of a new public space appearing in Avižieniai, the mayor of Vilnius district, Robertas Duchnevičius, announced on the social network “Facebook” on August 24.
“The Avižieniai eldership is rapidly growing, so the need for quality public spaces – for relaxation, leisure, informal education, sports, and cultural activities – is also increasing.
The Vilnius district municipality council approved the decision to start procedures for the acquisition of a 0.68 ha forest management land plot in the Avižieniai town by means of non-public negotiations.
If the negotiations are successful and the plot is acquired, this area could be adapted to the needs of residents – for recreation, active leisure, activities for children and youth, informal education, or cultural activities,” the mayor wrote.

He also indicated that this is not the final project for the arrangement of this area, but only the first step – supposedly this is an opportunity to acquire the plot, and then it will be evaluated what solutions would be most suitable and beneficial for the residents of Avižieniai.
However, some Avižieniai residents are already raising the question of whether this plot is somehow connected with one of the mayor’s associates and former advisor. Allegedly, not so long ago, the then advisor, working as a real estate agent, was selling an identical plot in the same location. However, the municipality denies any connections.
The council approved the first step
The opportunity for the first step in negotiations for the purchase of the plot arose after the approval of the Vilnius district municipality council.
