After Russia struck a weapons exhibition near Kyiv last Friday, it was initially reported that 10 people died and about 100 were injured.
On Monday, it was reported that a 66-year-old man died in hospital from his injuries, becoming the 11th victim of this Russian strike.
Due to uncertainties about this person and his connections with the Order of Malta, the General Prosecutor’s Office posted a clarification on the social network “Facebook” that this person did not hold diplomatic duties.
The Order of Malta denied on its official website on Tuesday that the mentioned person is in any way connected with the order or its structures operating in Ukraine.
On Monday, a Ukrainian court detained the organizer of the weapons exhibition targeted by Russia for pre-trial detention.
There was nationwide outrage over how this event was organized. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky also criticized it, stating that the event “definitely should not have taken place there.”
Prosecutors have said that the weapons association, without official permission, invited more than 300 people, including military personnel, state representatives, and business figures, and set up only a small cover.
The event also faced criticism for being promoted on social networks.
“The pre-trial investigation aims to determine as accurately as possible how the location, time, and participant list of this event ended up in the hands of the state aggressor,” prosecutor Ivan Varanycia told journalists in court.
Ukraine’s defense industry regularly holds events where it demonstrates its drones and other weapons to investors and allies.
Similar incidents, where Russia carried out attacks against gatherings of the Ukrainian army or defense sector, the details of which were widely published in advance, have also caused great outrage.
