A football stadium will be built on the outskirts of Vilnius: the builder is a famous Lithuanian businessman

The attention of Lithuanian and Vilnius football fans is currently under a magnifying glass at the Šeškinė hills. The National Stadium rising there has attracted curious eyes. The new football field rising next to Perkūnkiemis has received less attention.

Based on visuals and the provided material, it can be seen that a stadium with a roof over the stands will be designed, and in the background, a dome is visible where young footballers will be able to chase the ball even during winter.

The complex occupying 12 hectares will rise at Edinburgo St. 52, across the Western bypass, looking from the Perkūnkiemis side.

The builder is Petras Narbutas, owner of the furniture manufacturing company UAB “Narbutas”. The well-known national businessman also runs the football school “Vilnius”.

Currently, about 450 children train there, and previously a team of the same name played in the highest women’s league. However, it disappeared in 2023.

It seems that P. Narbutas has set an ambitious goal – to build another stadium in Vilnius.

Plans started back in 2019

At the very beginning of 2019, a club was introduced that was supposed to play in the I Lithuanian Football League, with the goal of playing in the then highest national league – the A league – after five years and being in the strong top four.

“Let’s restore the greatness of Vilnius football,” was the catchy slogan with which the project was introduced at the time.

In the first season, “Vilnius” cooperated with the Baltic Football Academy (BFA) and started the season under the name “Vilnius-BFA”. However, ambitious plans quickly fizzled out. In the first season, they finished 11th out of 15 teams, and in the second season, they did not participate in these championships.

However, information has now appeared that the company “Amplifico”, owned by UAB “Narbutas”, is the builder of the complex. Back in 2021, it was expected to officially present the project, but certain reasons postponed this date.

15min tried to learn more about the newly rising town and project and contacted P. Narbutas.
