About the fact that the Police Department will soon officially address the ministry managing the allocations, requesting an additional 168 million euros in next year’s budget, Arūnas Paulauskas spoke on Friday to LRT radio.
According to V. Kondratovičius, a more appropriate form of conveying such information would be private conversations, statements in working groups.
“In my assessment, this is pure politicking. It looks like an attempt to show that I did everything and got nothing. Every institution certainly presents many needs and can also say through the radio that it will submit another 100 million (need – BNS) to the minister,” he told BNS.
The Lithuanian police have 364 million euros allocated in this year’s budget, a very similar budget is projected for both 2027 and 2028.
According to V. Kondratovičius, in negotiations with the Ministry of Finance regarding next year’s budget, an additional 50 million euros are planned for the police.
“We are already planning plus 50 million for negotiations with the Ministry of Finance, concerning only the police, at least that much,” he said.

According to A. Paulauskas, in the current context, the police face significant financial problems, so they have to limit themselves to “just patching holes, not development.” He also claimed he can motivate why every additional euro is necessary for the service.
According to the minister, the general commissioner must prepare a long-term strategy this year.
“These are very large sums of money, but if he (A. Paulauskas – BNS) comes with those numbers, we will definitely consider it,” he explained.
Last year, when considering the budget, officers’ unions said it might lack at least 150 million euros.
