In order to attract future specialists, the Ministry of National Defence compensates all or part of the tuition fees for students studying at higher education institutions in study programs required by the national defence system. This support is especially relevant for young people who have enrolled in state-funded study places.
“The Lithuanian Armed Forces is a prestigious employer, so we invite young people to choose study fields important to the military and secure a meaningful career and a guaranteed job after graduation. Lithuania needs talented specialists who will contribute to the country’s security and defence strengthening with their knowledge and skills,” says Minister of National Defence Robertas Kaunas.
To receive study funding, it is necessary to study in full-time studies and sign a tripartite agreement between the student, the Ministry of National Defence, and the chosen higher education institution. According to the agreement, the student undertakes to complete the three-year Junior Officer training during their studies, and after graduation and obtaining the officer rank, to sign a five-year professional military service contract.
This support can be used not only by future students but also by those already studying. For example, funding can be applied for after completing the first year of studies. By signing the tripartite agreement, the possibility of receiving study funding arises, but the obligations to complete the Junior Officer training and perform five years of professional military service remain.
