In June, B. Nadezhdin announced his intention to run for the State Duma deputy. Elections in Russia are scheduled for September 20. After that, he began actively collecting signatures.
However, on July 10, the Ministry of Justice recognized the politician as a foreign agent, stating that he spread “unreliable information” about the decisions of the Russian Federation authorities and the country’s electoral system, “encouraged participation in unauthorized rallies,” and also participated in preparing materials for “foreign agents” and an unspecified “undesirable” organization.
In addition to B. Nadezhdin, the “Candidate Headquarters” associated with him, which declares support for independent election participants, was included in the “foreign agents” register.
️The politician himself assessed the Ministry of Justice’s decision as predictable: “Before the State Duma elections, there is an attempt to remove dangerous opponents.”
At the same time, he emphasized that he will continue to collect signatures in support of his candidacy. However, Russian laws prohibit “foreign agents” from participating in elections.
The politician himself, whom the Central Election Commission, led by Ella Pamfilova, refused to register as a candidate for the Russian presidency in 2024, stated that the “foreign agent” status was assigned to him by Kremlin order.
In his opinion, before the State Duma elections, the authorities are trying to secure the “desired result” through the elections.
According to sources from The Moscow Times, the order to prevent B. Nadezhdin, a former State Duma deputy and member of the political council of the “Union of Right Forces,” from participating in the elections was given from the Kremlin when its officials saw long lines of people wanting to sign for the only candidate opposing the war.
It is noteworthy that B. Nadezhdin was nominated by the “Civic Initiative” party, which was later liquidated by the Supreme Court.

The reason was posts with links on Facebook and Instagram social networks. On July 10, he was detained for 10 days.
The politician called the case politically motivated persecution and linked it to the upcoming elections. Detention under the article for demonstrating extremist symbols deprives the right to be elected to government bodies for a year.
