The European Parliament approved an additional €680 million for the closure of the Ignalina Nuclear Power Plant

On Wednesday, the EP gave a positive opinion on the allocation of funds from the 2028–2034 EU budget – 625 MEPs approved, 20 opposed, and 22 abstained, the EP office in Lithuania reported.

“They agree that it is necessary to maintain the Union’s commitment, as set out in Lithuania’s accession treaty to the EU, to provide adequate financial support for the early closure of the nuclear power plant,” the office statement said.
