The ceremony took place on the Lithuanian Armed Forces Naval Ship “Skalvis” (M53).
It began with a flight of Romanian Air Force fighter jets, conducting a NATO air defence mission in the Baltic States, over the formation of ships.

More than ten ships participated in the ceremony. Wreaths were lowered from the ship “Skalvis” into the Baltic Sea, thus honouring those who did not return from the sea, who “sacrificed their lives by making Lithuania famous, creating the foundations of a maritime state, and fostering the country’s seafaring history”.
Wreaths from the President, the Government, the Ministry of National Defence, the Ministry of Transport and Communications, the Lithuanian Armed Forces, foreign embassies, Klaipėda City Municipality, Klaipėda Seaport, and universities were lowered into the sea.

Those who perished at sea were honoured with a minute of silence.
The ceremony of lowering wreaths for those who perished at sea is one of the oldest traditions of the Sea Festival, first held in 1934.
